Swift Police Action Nabs 3 Robbers in Erasmia, Firearm Recovered

On Friday, 6 September 2024, around 13:00, officers from the Erasmia police station responded to an urgent report of an armed robbery in progress on Scheiverberg Road, Vlakplaas, in the Lillian area. Acting quickly, the police dispatched patrol units to the scene, supported by members from Atteridgeville SAPS and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Airwing, who provided aerial surveillance and support.

      

Suspects caught during the operation

Upon arrival at the scene, two of the suspected robbers were immediately apprehended by the Airwing unit and handed over to the Erasmia police. However, a third suspect managed to flee, sparking a coordinated tactical search of the surrounding area. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the police teams, the third suspect was soon located and arrested.

During the operation, two firearms were recovered. One of these weapons was later identified as a replica. The second firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it may have been used in other criminal activities.

The suspects are now facing multiple charges, including armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Tshwane District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, commended the police officers for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the successful arrests and recovery of the firearm.
