Thabiso Sibongiseni Nyawuza, known in the music scene as Flexa, is a rising South African songwriter, composer, recording artist and graphic designer whose journey began in the heart of Katlehong, Gauteng. Polite, driven and deeply artistic, Flexa embodies the spirit of a modern creative a “jack of all trades” with the discipline and faith to match.
His love for music sparked at just 13 when
his mother bought him a laptop. What started as simple DJ experiments turned
into a passion for writing raps and recording using only a cellphone. Even when
setbacks hit like losing his computer before mastering production he kept
pushing, performing at school events and teaching himself the ropes of the industry.
By matric, music was no longer just a
pastime. Flexa’s dedication was so intense it drew concern from teachers and
parents, but his response was firm: “music was his future.” Inspired by icons
like Mandoza, Kwesta, Cassper Nyovest and Eminem, he shaped a sound influenced
by the township realities he grew up in, guided partly by his father, a former
kwaito artist.
Today, Flexa sees himself as a “ticking
bomb,” ready for the moment everything aligns. His upcoming EP, ZIQELEKAZI,
celebrates his Xhosa heritage, self-discovery and spiritual growth. Blending
African-rooted dance rhythms with modern production, the project reflects his
personal evolution and the legacy he hopes to build.
Flexa is more than an artist, he’s a story
of resilience, culture and unwavering belief.
