Killer Drugs In The Hands Of Mpumalanga Youth
The most common drugs that have been found being used
include Nyaope, Marijuana & Alcohol.
According to Thabo Dhlamini he believes that the youth is
involved in drugs due to peer pressure and unemployment. He states that “people
take drugs due to their background at home whereby a person comes from an
underprivileged background and can’t handle the pressure back home”.
Recently drugs have also made their ways into the school
premises as Boitumelo Skosana a grade 11 pupil states that “I have some of my
peers dropping out of school to just go focus on drugs and some were bright
learners in class”.
Parents happened to be one of the key players in tackling
the struggle against drugs, according to Given Mahlangu he believes some
parents have tried necessary to help their children they even take steps of
taking their children to rehab to help them stop taking this drug, but some end
up going straight to drugs after going to rehab due to peer pressure.
He also believes that the government When it comes to it
trying to assist, he says “yes, the government is doing more than enough due to
that a lot of things are now free like your rehabs, therapy sessions, so the
government also tries to fight the struggle”.
They all believe that in order to fight this struggle of
drugs we must start by bringing down the drug dealers to law by showing the law
enforcement the people who are behind the selling of drugs.
They also believe that the government must introduce a law
which stop drug trade and find those responsible guilty and be given a sentence
that will be set as an example for others who are thinking of selling drugs to
the people on the streets.
Kgothatso Faith Chochi states “What we must do is to come
together as the people and help the police by showing them these drug dealers
who are selling drugs to the young ones so that they get arrested and then we
can be able to the conversation of how to help the ones who are already in
drugs get out of using drugs’’.
